Many companies these days have an alcohol and drug policy. Testing for the aforementioned is an integral part of such policies. It is estimated that alcohol abuse in the workplace costs the UK around £2 billion each year and drug abuse an estimated £800 million with a combined 14 million lost working days each year. Testing for alcohol and drugs can reduce the rate of absenteeism, improve staff relations and is in support of the following government legislations: - Health and Safety at Work Act, Transport and Works Act, Misuse of Drugs Act and Road Traffic Act.
